Overview
The Vestian Empire is the dominant political power in the Twin Crescents and one of the most influential nations in the known world. It spans two continents: Hellan in the west, and Isandor in the east.
The Vestian Empire is ruled by the Dawnwalker dynasty from the sun elf capital of Vestia. It is a feudal monarchy governed by sun elves, with human and dwarven vassal kingdoms serving beneath the crown.
The five kingdoms of the Vestian Empire are Vestia, Thrain, Snowpeak, Erendor, and Revalis. Each is ruled by a monarch who answers to the Imperator and Imperatrix in Vestia.
Leadership
The Vestian Empire is ruled jointly by Imperator Asgarion Dawnwalker and his wife, Imperatrix Talani Haruna. Asgarion is the son of Ahellion and Veladriel Dawnwalker, the dynasty's founders, and spent his entire life preparing to inherit the throne. He is ruthless, cunning, and charismatic. Few dare to oppose him openly.
Talani Haruna was the former ruler of the Azure Empire. Her marriage to Asgarion formalized the alliance between the two most powerful empires in the world. The union is both political and genuine. Together, the two rulers command an unprecedented concentration of military, economic, and religious power.
Asgarion's mother, Veladriel Dawnwalker, now serves as the goddess of the sun and patron deity of the Empire. Her ascension to godhood elevated the Vestian Empire from a powerful monarchy to a divinely ordained state. Her faith, known as Verunism, is the official religion of the Empire.
Government
The Vestian Empire is a feudal monarchy. The Imperator holds absolute authority. Beneath him, each of the five kingdoms is administered by its own monarch, who owes fealty to the crown and contributes military forces, taxes, and resources to the Empire's central treasury.
Noble houses beneath each monarch compete fiercely for titles, land, and royal favor. The Dawnwalkers encourage nationalist sentiment throughout the Empire and reward loyalty generously. Those who oppose the crown tend to disappear quietly.
Military
The Vestian Empire fields the most powerful navy in the known world. Its fleets patrol the Sea of Kings, project power across the Twin Crescents, and increasingly venture into the waters of the Isles.
The Imperial Army is headquartered on the outskirts of Vestia, where extensive barracks, stables, and training grounds house its forces. Each vassal kingdom contributes standing armies to the Empire's overall military strength. Erendor in particular maintains one of the largest armies relative to its civilian population.
Religion
Verunism is the official religion of the Vestian Empire. Temples to the sun are found in every city and town across both crescents. The faith is closely tied to the crown. Veladriel herself is both the goddess of Verunism and the mother of the reigning Imperator. This gives the Empire a rare and powerful legitimacy: its ruler is the son of a living god.
The first Verunist Crusade, launched in response to the kidnapping of Veladriel by the demon-god Kadrazel, is one of history's many examples of the Empire's willingness to project military force in the name of faith. The destruction of Calak'mul during the Crusade remains the Empire's most significant military action in recent history.
