Overview

Idrendor Arthel (also known as Arthel) is a god from another world. He is not native to Ilisara and does not belong to its divine pantheon.

Arthel's teachings originate from a world unknown to Ilisara's scholars. They were brought to this planet by his Chosen, Agyrios, who covertly arrived in Ilisara from that same distant place.

Arthelians believe that Idrendor Arthel is considered the one true god, the God of Gods, above all other divine beings. Arthel's faith in Ilisara is stewarded by Messiah Agyrios and his Ecumenical Patriarch, Nikandros.

History

Idrendor Arthel was a god who walked among mortals, preaching peace, acceptance, and love for all. Angered by his teachings, an Emperor sent men to slay him. Arthel was impaled on a spear alongside a rich man and a poor man. The two who died with him represented the entire spectrum of mortal existence.

Arthel did not stay dead, but rose again and spoke to the Emperor before ascending to Heaven. This resurrection is the theological cornerstone of the Arthelian Faith. Dying on the spear was a transformation rather than an ending. To this day, the Spear of Destiny is well-known as the central relic of the Arthelian Faith. It is the weapon used to martyr Idrendor Arthel. Those who die on it and are found worthy may live again, as Arthel himself did.

Imprisonment on Ilisara

At some point, Pythea, the witch of the Lonely Tower, captured Idrendor Arthel and imprisoned him in Eden beneath the Lonely Tower in Anash'col. She used obsidian alloy rings to contain him and siphoned his divine power to fuel her city. She claimed his symbol (a triple-bar cross) as her own, inverting it for the worship of Arth and Vandun. Whether Pythea knew who she had captured, or simply recognized a powerful divine being to exploit, is not publicly known.

Freedom

Travelers from other worlds are exceptionally rare, but Arthel would not be the only one from his world to arrive in Ilisara. He preceded the coming of a small group of dragons named Agyrios and Vanessa. Upon learning of his God’s imprisonment, Agyrios was driven to free him. The forces of evil overwhelmed him after he and Vanessa broke the rings binding Arthel.

Idrendor Arthel responded by impaling Agyrios on the Spear of Destiny, resurrecting him as the Messiah of the Arthelian faith. Agyrios carries a diamond-shaped scar on his chest where the spear pierced him and Arthel’s lingering divine blessing.

After the Lonely Tower was destroyed and Eden’s divine prison shattered, Arthel spoke directly with Agyrios and departed back to his own world and his own people, who needed him. Agyrios is the living remnant of his divine power in Ilisara.
