Requirements for Martial Abilities

To use a Basic Attack and Tier Abilities that require a weapon (also known as Martial Abilities), characters need only meet the basic Attribute requirements to wield a weapon. So long as they can wield a weapon, they can create Martial Abilities. If Martial characters also meet the requirements to create Magic Abilities, they can use those too.​

Rules for Martial Abilities

Damage Upgrades

To upgrade the damage of your Basic Attacks and Abilities, you must increase the quality of your weapon. The default values of every weapon are based on Common materials.

• Common materials provide no bonus to damage rolls.

• Rare materials provide a +1 bonus to damage rolls.

• Epic materials provide a +2 bonus to damage. ​

These bonuses are known as Material Modifiers.

Accuracy Upgrades

If a character has 8 or more points in their Strength Attribute, they receive a bonus passive that gives them a +1 chance to hit with weapons. Additional attack bonuses can be acquired via other custom passives. Some items (weapon oils, sharpening stones) can also increase accuracy.

Damage Over Time

Some characters like to inflict wounds that bleed each turn for extra damage, or healing spells that trickle healing over time. Generally, damage over time effects (if not simple secondary effects) follow one of the following formulas where each application of damage takes place on a subsequent turn:

• .5x, .5x, 1x for T3 abilities

• .5x, 1x, 1x for T2 abilities

In general, T3 abilities should deal double damage if they are spread over three turns, while T2 abilities deal a bit more than double.

Movement and Range

Most ranged attacks (javelins, arrows shot from bows) have a range of 70'. Movement abilities always take characters 10 feet further than their maximum movement speed, and Martial movements always remove all movement-imparing effects (like roots, snares, etc).

Game Balance

All martial characters deal a similar amount of damage. They can upgrade their weapons by purchasing new weapons, finding Rare or Epic weapons as loot, or by enhancing their Common weapons.
