Kuenugarth

Overview
Kuenugarth is a pragmatic kingdom that has survived for thousands of years on the merit of its hard-working people, fairness of its rulers, and reverence for the old gods. In recent decades, the arrival of the Arthelian Faith has caused new churches to rise amongst its old, snowy cities.
Kuenugarth sits in the center of Anash'col, between the Kingdoms of Great Borea and Sovgorod.
History
Kuenugarth was founded by dissidents who protested the wicked rule of the Sorceress Queen of Great Borea and her ancestors. They traveled south, consolidated the tribes of Anash'col's lower reaches, and built a kingdom.

The founding Tsar of Kuenugarth is remembered as a pragmatic and capable leader who understood that survival required unity. He built a grand vault beneath the city to house Anash’col’s greatest treasures leftover from the godwars. These values (and treasures) have helped the kingdom thrive over generations. The vault is lined with anti-magic properties because it was built with stones from the Lonely Tower, rendering it a bunker-like structure against magical or divine incursion.
In recent times, the sitting Tsar of Kuenugarth was assassinated alongside Nikandros, the Patriarch of the Arthelian Faith by forces from Sovgorod. The Tsar’s death left Tsarina Katarin on the throne. She has since married Prince Leon of Great Borea, Anastasia's son, formalizing an alliance between the two kingdoms.
Government
Kuenugarth is a feudal monarchy currently ruled by Tsarina Katarin, and her husband Prince Leon. Together, they strengthened Kuenugarth's relationship with Great Borea while maintaining its independence.
The kingdom has a strong noble class and an active council. Unlike Great Borea, Kuenugarth has no formal gender restrictions on citizenship or governance. Men and women serve in equal capacity across its institutions, a fact that has historically made it a destination for Borean refugees and dissidents.
The City
Kuenugarth has grown considerably in the last twenty years. Wealth has flowed into the city, and it has expanded into nearby hamlets and across snow-covered fields. Its skyline is defined by Arthelian churches. Their triple-bar crosses are visible from the sea.
The docks are heavily patrolled. Soldiers with trained wolf-dogs inspect incoming ships for demonic infiltrators. A network of monoliths surrounds the city and extends into the surrounding region, protecting it from demonkind. In the outskirts of the city lies the Druid Circle of the Northern Lights, whose territory stretches from Kuenugarth to Dreadrock.
Kuenugarth’s military might rests in its soldiers and elite Tzar Guard, who work alongside Great Borea’s Ice Guard to repel threats to either nation.
Religion
The Arthelian Faith has taken deeper root in Kuenugarth than anywhere else on the continent. The Messiah Agyrios spent significant time here in the early years of his ministry, and the city's largest and most beautiful churches were built under his guidance. Arthelian priests guide congregations throughout the city. The faith's message that all people regardless of station, wealth, or past deeds can find redemption resonates powerfully in a kingdom that has spent generations in the shadow of Great Borea's rigid hierarchy.
Orthodox Pantheism persists among older citizens and rural communities, though it has largely been displaced among the younger crowd by Arthelian worship.
