Aeon's Demise
Overview
Aeon's Demise is the name given to the killing of Aeon, the god of time, by Hejong, the god of war. It is one of the most consequential events in Ilisara's history. The physical aftermath of the battle reshaped the planet's geography permanently.
Background
Aeon was a chaotic deity whose body was made of shifting black and gold sand. He constantly rewound time, froze it at will, and opened rifts to other dimensions that no other god could close. He undid the careful work of other gods purely for his own amusement and had no regard for the order of the world.
Hejong, the god of war and the pantheon's self-appointed enforcer of order, eventually decided Aeon had to be stopped. The two gods clashed in a battle that shook the cosmos. Neither conventional weapons nor spells were sufficient to end Aeon, whose mastery of time allowed him to undo almost any damage dealt to him.
The Killing Blow
Hejong's solution was to act faster than Aeon could react. He seized a continent and hurled it at Aeon with enough force to kill him instantly. Aeon had no time to rewind. He was struck and destroyed on the spot. His body dissolved into sand that rained across the surface of Ilisara.
Aftermath
The continent Hejong threw shattered on impact. Its debris rained down into the ocean west of An'mani, colliding with the seabed and displacing an enormous volume of water. The resulting tidal wave swept all marine life up, and dumped the contents of an entire sea onto the newly-formed landmass extending from An'mani's western edge. The salt and minerals left behind by the retreating wave rendered the soil unable to support crops. This new land became Okuna.
The ocean that once existed where Okuna now stands was home to the water spirit Devondalevi and hundreds of species of sea creatures. All were casualties of the battle. Devondalevi survived but was stranded in the desert, where he eventually perished. His bones and the surrounding soil carry residual magical properties to this day.
The chasm left behind where Hejong tore the continent free filled with ocean water and volcanic activity. It became the Sunken World.
Fragments of the destroyed continent still orbit Ilisara in space as a cluster of dust and rock, visible from the surface as the Night Scar: a faint stripe that circles the planet. Shooting stars from the Night Scar are a common phenomenon.
Significance
Aeon's Demise established Hejong as a feared enforcer in the divine pantheon. No god questioned his methods afterward.
Aeon's death eliminated time magic from the pantheon entirely. Chronomancy still exists in the world as a mortal school of magic, derived from the residual energy of Aeon's dissolution, but no god currently holds dominion over time and it is unlikely any ever will.
